Weight Loss May Help Hot Flashes

Results from the six-month trial, conducted among 154 women, showed that overweight and obese postmenopausal women reported a significant improvement in hot flushes after an intensive behavioral weight-loss program.

Around a third of those assigned to the weight-loss intervention had a self-reported improvement. The program included counseling, education, dietary modification, and use of meal-replacement products. Participants also were encouraged to increase physical activity to at least 200 minutes per week.
